Marzo is a stud. Really Inspiring. Sometimes I feel, I mean everyone feels like an outsider to some extent. Talk about self-understanding, Clay or his family didn't understand him until they diagnosed him with Asperger's Syndrome.

Reading parts of this book right now, damn well written, will make you re-think about the power of walking from here to there.

I saw this film last night at the University Town Center near UCI. One of the best documentaries I've seen in a while. Really well done. Kept me laughing and thinking the entire way through. If you like street art, Shepard Fairey or Banksy (both street artists), I suggest you go see it. I sometimes have a strong dislike for artists and the pretentiousness that they bring. This film clearly documents that as it challenges you to think of what is and isn't art. I just remember seeing some jackass kid at the end talk about an artist who was "doing something new in a modern way". I remember laughing because it wasn't new at all. That artist, at the end of the film, made about a million dollars in sales because he was doing something "new". Just watch it... you'll see...

CFA portraits. I think they're coming out well...

Depersonalized, maybe. Destroyed, possibly; I think really by the power of her beauty. It is as isolating as genius, or deformity. Unlike genius, it is one of the qualities that removes you from the world, but offers no real compensation. I have always been aware of a relationship between madness and beauty. Does this help to explain some of what appear to be contradictions in my work? It’s only one part. It had nothing to do with the discipline of work, and other things, but you will find, if you look to the portraits, that connection. A possibility of failure and danger and poetry in life — and the close line.

Taylor Steeles New movie to come out. From what the trailer presents, I can only imagine an amazing film. I love the music, the shots and the nostalgia of the piece. What happens while surfing is only so small compared to the events of the before and the thereafter. I find that the colors of summer, the smell of donuts and coffee in the morning, the laughs afterward and a warm shower is a more of a larger part of why I love to surf. Thank you Taylor for always making great films.

silhouette

I've been shooting a lot lately. Mostly black and white. A recent project in my block and white film class has led me to documenting silhouettes in Tucson. Inspired by Chris Burkard, a photographer based out of Central California, I have noticed that silhouettes provide that timeless quality that brings the viewer closer to the image.
The photo above is one of many photos I am presenting in my final project. While I was riding my bike on Monday around downtown, I heard a faint violin sound echoing through the underpass. I thought it was a sound system that Tucson had just installed under the bridge. Coming from Orange County, I am very well acquainted with unnecessary things like that. But it wasn't. As I passed I saw a small violin player grinding away. It was really great to listen to. I sat there for about 2 songs of his and tipped the man 2 dollars. More musicians should play on the street once in a while.
On Monday I'll be seeing Yann Tiersen. It's been long overdue. I have been listening to this guy's stuff for about 7 years now and he has yet to ever, may once, play in the United States. Thanks to Coachella, he'll be stopping by in Tucson for a night. I also really enjoy the photo in the youtube video.

NY - Boston

Other than living out of a suitcase, sleeping on small couches and reusing dirty socks and underwear, traveling is really enjoyable. I just recently took a trip to visit my brother in New York. My first site of the city was welcomed with a generous amount of rain and howling winds, the worst they had seen in 30 years, yay for me. The energy of the that city is infectious. Staying out late and drinking till 4 in the morning isn't unusual or unexpected. My brother and I walked the park before I left and I was greeted by a passerby, he asked if he could sit. He was a poet and to be honest, I don't remember his name, but I do remember feeling like I was in some J.D. Salinger short story, that fine line between creepiness and friendliness. Thank you New York, I had a great time.

Some photos from the past week. I just recently was asked to be a part of a prospective tv show that may be airing on the National Geographic Channel. Iain Harris came by for 2 days to film and interview, hopefully the pitch goes well.
I stopped by 4th street today to notice that there was Ford Mustang car show spanning the length of 4th. There were some beautiful cars that showed their face this morning. It was a good way to start the day.
