silhouette

I've been shooting a lot lately. Mostly black and white. A recent project in my block and white film class has led me to documenting silhouettes in Tucson. Inspired by Chris Burkard, a photographer based out of Central California, I have noticed that silhouettes provide that timeless quality that brings the viewer closer to the image.
The photo above is one of many photos I am presenting in my final project. While I was riding my bike on Monday around downtown, I heard a faint violin sound echoing through the underpass. I thought it was a sound system that Tucson had just installed under the bridge. Coming from Orange County, I am very well acquainted with unnecessary things like that. But it wasn't. As I passed I saw a small violin player grinding away. It was really great to listen to. I sat there for about 2 songs of his and tipped the man 2 dollars. More musicians should play on the street once in a while.
On Monday I'll be seeing Yann Tiersen. It's been long overdue. I have been listening to this guy's stuff for about 7 years now and he has yet to ever, may once, play in the United States. Thanks to Coachella, he'll be stopping by in Tucson for a night. I also really enjoy the photo in the youtube video.

NY - Boston

Other than living out of a suitcase, sleeping on small couches and reusing dirty socks and underwear, traveling is really enjoyable. I just recently took a trip to visit my brother in New York. My first site of the city was welcomed with a generous amount of rain and howling winds, the worst they had seen in 30 years, yay for me. The energy of the that city is infectious. Staying out late and drinking till 4 in the morning isn't unusual or unexpected. My brother and I walked the park before I left and I was greeted by a passerby, he asked if he could sit. He was a poet and to be honest, I don't remember his name, but I do remember feeling like I was in some J.D. Salinger short story, that fine line between creepiness and friendliness. Thank you New York, I had a great time.

Some photos from the past week. I just recently was asked to be a part of a prospective tv show that may be airing on the National Geographic Channel. Iain Harris came by for 2 days to film and interview, hopefully the pitch goes well.
I stopped by 4th street today to notice that there was Ford Mustang car show spanning the length of 4th. There were some beautiful cars that showed their face this morning. It was a good way to start the day.

I just purchased a Nikon F3HP 35mm camera on ebay for $218. I can't wait to get it and start shooting.

I'm taking a documentary photography class this semester. Yesterday I pitched two ideas, above are some of the photographs I used. Apparently you shouldn't do anything to your photographs when documenting something...hahaha... I got a fare share of criticism from my teacher and my classmates. I felt like a jackass.

School hasn't completely begun yet. I have had a lot of free time to shoot random photos with my friends. Please checkout the videos below of Anis Mojgani, he is an unbelievable poet. He speaks words and phrases that have simply been forgotten. My friend Alex who goes by the name of Rossy is having a CD come out in February. He and another friend of mine, Chris Young, recorded a great song called "Touch the Stars". Check it out, http://www.myspace.com/chrisyoungrap
